we offered over 50 workshops in a wide variety of subjects to about 340 participants, a third of whom were children. In 2000, after visiting the May Day Parade put on by In The Heart Of The Beast Puppet and Mask Theater in Minneapolis, MN, we decided to change our focus to several community parades in 2000 and 2001. The parades featured giant puppets and costumed marchers and focused on our relationship to the New River and its ecosystem. Two of the parades were in conjunction with Blowing Rock’s 4th of July parade, attended by perhaps 10,000 people and one parade in 2001 featured 85 participants walking 2 miles along a gravel road next to the New River in Todd.
